Kalu Uche was born in 1976 in Isiugwu. Ohafia Abia
state, Nigeria and raised in Lagos state.
He is self taught, and has always been
interested in art, he found that art was always a far more interesting pursuit
than his school studies.
He says: "Art the only thing I’d done my whole life, and I was
good at it". After his junior secondary school (J S S C E) he enrolled at the
government technical college Lagos (G.T.C) where he study graphic art.
While in
G.T.C he also works with atoss art gallery as sculptor, between 1995 and 1998.
After diploma in graphic art, he proceed to federal polytechnic oko in Anambra
State, Nigeria, where he obtain his national diploma on applied art and
painting; while still in the polytechnic, he has handle different project as a
sculptor around Anambra state, which include the relief work of 14 station of
the cross and lord supper in St’ Gabriel catholic church umunagi, Anambra,
window ark and fancy pillars in ozubulu, anambra and a wooden carve masks in
bevereal hill hotel at Nnewi Anambra, and the anticut billboard at the entrance
of the school.
In 2001, he holes a group exhibition with his fellow students.
After graduating from federal polytechnic oko, he began his career as a painter.
He enjoys painting still life, figurature portraits, landscapes and seascapes,
he finds his most interesting subjects in the people and natural around him.
Since 2002, Kalu’s painting have been purchased by individuals, collectors,
hotels and fast food rest.
On September 2003 he was invited to show his works at
the book and art exhibition fair at national museum. He is a born artist. He
enjoys painting of oil in canvas.
